Yorkshire Sculpture Park

I was asked to make a collection of serving boards and bespoke utensils to sell at the park and for the restaurant at the new visitor centre called The Weston.

There was an oak tree which had to be cut down to make way for the new building and The sculpture park asked if I could make everything using the wood from that as well as other branches from trees in the park. They called in someone with a wood-mizer and sliced up the tree diagram I drew. The planks were stored nearby for 6 months before I went to collect it and store it back home to plane it. I had to wait almost a year before it was dry enough not to warp.

I also used the smaller branches to create 400 pont of sale holders to replace their transparent plastic ones. Scroll through the images below to see the process and results.

Highgrove

Highgrove is the private residence of TRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall. The estate manager invited me to visit the wood store of timber from the estate and take some pieces to create items for their shop.

In 2008 the cedar of Lebanon tree was damaged by lightning and taken down, I am using some of this wood in some products for the estate as well as using branches of yew from the gardens. Due to Coronavirus, this is an ongoing project which is yet to be completed as the gardens and shop are currently closed to the public and unable to take deliveries.
